to the
Society of Construction Law (UAE)

The Society's aims are to promote the study and understanding of construction law amongst all those involved in the construction industry in the UAE and Gulf region.

The Society is affiliated with the Society of Construction Law in the UK, which was founded in 1983. It is open to everyone with an interest in construction law and how it affects their work - not just lawyers. We welcome members from both the UAE and abroad.

The Society is strictly independent of commercial interests. It exists not to promote individual business interests, but to act as a forum for the better understanding of construction law and its practical application in the industry in the UAE.

Next event

Dubai, 24th September 2008

Jim Delkousis will be speaking on "Traps and Pitfalls of Construction Claims in the UAE". Jim is a partner in the international law firm of DLA Piper in Dubai and has more than 15 years of experience in dealing with disputes arising out of major projects. He will be identifying some of the significant issues we all need to be aware of when preparing, presenting or responding to construction claims in the UAE.

This event will be chaired by Paul Suckling of Ince & Co in Dubai. Paul is a dual qualified English solicitor and quantity surveyor. Please note that since this event is taking place in Ramadan, it will be starting at 3.30pm, and no refreshments will be served. Further details are available here.

The easiest way to join the Society is to do so at one of our events (having reserved at place at events@scl-uae.org). Honorary President

The honorary President of the Society is Professor Mohammad Labib Shanab, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University in Cairo. He is the author of the only academic text book on construction law in the Middle East, amongst other significant publications. His work on Egyptian Law is relevant to construction contracts in the UAE and throughout the Gulf region.
